About LotLedger
LotLedger is a crypto and digital asset tax tracker for US taxpayers. You record what you bought, sold, traded, spent, earned and moved between wallets. LotLedger works out the cost basis and gain or loss of every sale and produces a tax-year summary laid out like IRS Form 1099-DA and Form 8949.
Who it is for
People who hold crypto on one or more exchanges or in self-custody wallets and will receive a Form 1099-DA from a broker, or who need to report digital asset sales themselves. It is also useful for anyone who wants to hand a tidy gains schedule to their accountant.
What it does
- Tracks buys, sells, trades, spending, staking and reward income, deposits, withdrawals and transfers.
- Imports CSV exports from Coinbase, Kraken, Crypto.com, Gemini and Robinhood, plus a simple template for any other source. The same file can be imported twice without creating duplicates.
- Keeps cost basis separately for each wallet (the IRS wallet-by-wallet rule from 2025) and carries the original cost and date across transfers between your own wallets.
- Calculates gains with FIFO by default, or LIFO or HIFO, and splits them into short-term and long-term.
- Exports the tax-year report as CSV and PDF.
- Shows portfolio value at live prices, unrealized gain, realized gain and income on a dashboard.
How the math works
Each buy, income receipt or deposit creates a lot in the wallet that received it, with a cost per unit (price plus fees for buys; fair market value for income). A sale or spend takes units from that wallet's lots in the order your method dictates. Proceeds are quantity × price minus fees. A lot counts as long-term when it is sold after the first anniversary of its acquisition date. If you sell more than a wallet holds, the extra is shown with $0 basis and flagged so you can add the missing record.
Limits
Prices are in US dollars. Crypto-to-crypto trades are recorded as a sale of one asset and a buy of the other. Wash-sale rules do not apply to crypto under current law and are not modeled. DeFi, NFTs and margin or futures positions need manual entries.
